The measures will be released individually in the near future.
Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington, chair of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, is preparing a series of bills to regulate artificial intelligence (AI). According to the senator’s staff, the bills will deal with deepfakes, algorithmic bias, digital privacy, national security, jobs and training, and AI innovation and competitiveness.
The committee is working to tailor their proposals to garner the most bipartisan support possible. The degree of their success will be shown once the bills are introduced to the Senate.
The Senate committee announced the creation of the National AI Advisory Committee in early January as part of the FUTURE of AI Act, which will include academic, nonprofit, civil, and private sector officials to help guide AI research, development, and implementation.
“The rapid advancement of AI innovation has brought forth immense possibilities and opportunities. However, with these advancements come potential challenges and risks that must be addressed in a safe manner,“ the senator and her colleagues wrote earlier this month.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senator Cantwell as she presides over the Senate Commerce Committee.
- For the members of the committee to be prudent in their creation of AI regulations.
- For the officials on the AI advisory committee to provide wise recommendations.
